Te Kāpehu Riccarton School - To Seek, To Learn, To Flourish Together
Welcome to the Te Kāpehu Riccarton School. Our school is a full primary (Years 1–8) family-orientated school. Our children are valued for their differences and individuality. Te Kāpehu Riccarton School is a school where learners are supported to become Te Kāpehu All-Stars.
We are shaped by our values, being;
Mana - Be proud of yourself, Be proud of your culture, Be proud of your identity
Manaaki - To care for others, To make a real difference, To be kind
Manawaroa - To show heart, To show grit, To never give up
Manawa Ora - To enjoy life to the fullest, To have fun and be grateful, To seek out opportunities and enjoy learning
We are proud, caring and confident - life-long learners, teachers and whanau, who make the most of every day.
At Te Kāpehu Riccarton School, we offer a wide range of sports, outdoor education and arts opportunities. We are committed to providing the very best resources we can to ensure a quality learning environment. We want our learners to be strong in their knowledge of the bicultural nature of New Zealand including a knowledge and understanding of Tikanga, Taha and Te Reo Māori
We believe your child’s education is a partnership between the parents/caregivers, the school and the child. Good communication between all three will help the level of success. Parents/caregivers are encouraged to be involved in school activities, as well as supporting and encouraging your child in activities in which s/he is involved.
We value the many different cultures, languages, and identities that make up our unique school community. We love to welcome learners from all around the world to join our learning community. We work alongside our international families to ensure that our learners have a happy, positive and safe experience with us. International families are given extra care and support by following the New Zealand Code of Practice for International Students.
Accommodation
Students under 10 years old must travel and stay with a parent.
Students older than 10 can be placed with a designated caregiver.
Highlights
We believe our English Language Learners should be given the knowledge and skills to participate in an age-appropriate classroom (and to access its curriculum), through the use of strategies designed to accelerate their progress. We have a designated teacher who leads the pastoral and academic support for all of our international students. This teacher leads our team of ESOL staff to support new students to settle into our school and provides additional language learning education.
Please read this testimonial from a recent international student parent;
“Dear Te Kāpehu Riccarton School,
Kaiye has had a wonderful time in your school and we have never seen him so happy to go to school before. As a result, Kaiye's parents have decided to extend their stay in New Zealand so he can enjoy the school a bit longer. Kaiye has made many new friends and he has been telling us that everyone was lovely and helpful to him. He likes the flexibility of the teaching and the big playground just outside of his classroom.
As Kaiye's family, we have found the staff in Te Kapehu have been very friendly and helpful to support us getting Kaiye enrolled and settled in the school. The communication was easy and quick from Amanda. We are very keen to take Kaiye and his brother who will be turning 5 next year to come back to this school as international students.
We really appreciated the support from Te Kapehu and we think this is an amazing place for the kids from any nations to study.
Yours sincerely,
Mandy Liu
Caregiver of Kai Ye Li”
