ChristchurchNZ is looking for a local creative agency to play a key part in work to define who we are as a city and share our story with future residents, workers, visitors and businesses.
Over 4,000 residents and nearly 10,000 visitors have so far contributed to work on two Destination Management Plans for the region and a Christchurch city identity, or story, that defines who we are.
ChristchurchNZ has today called for local agencies to submit a registration of interest in helping develop the new city identity next year – effectively bringing our new story to life through a suite of resources. A shortlist of agencies will then be invited to take part in a request for proposal process later this year.
The registration of interest submissions will close 5pm 22 November.
Chief Executive Ali Adams says this is a critical and exciting piece of work for our city and is keen to see local companies get involved.
“The Government requires every region around New Zealand to prepare Destination Management Plans that collaboratively aim to grow tourism in a way that best reflects the local community. Alongside that, we’re using the same community views, feedback and local research to create a city identity for Christchurch.
ChristchurchNZ Chief Executive - Ali AdamsThe aim is to come up with a way of talking about ourselves that reflects who we are today and what’s important to us, helping to shape where we want to be in the future. By working out what’s most important to us, we can help future residents, workers, visitors and businesses understand what’s great about coming here.”

“That process is underway now and we’ll be able to share some of the emerging themes from the community and visitor surveys soon. We want to get everyone sharing the city's story and we’ll need to provide tools and support to get people talking about Christchurch – that’s what today’s call for interest is all about,” she says.

The successful local creative agency will work with a wider team to bring the city identity work to life for Christchurch people. This is expected to include filming and creation of videos and related material focused on the city’s tourism and business destination story, design and writing of material to support the city’s use of the new story and other supporting collateral.
International experts Resonance Consulting, partnering with Christchurch agencies Narrative, Creative Agent and Fabriko, are right now compiling feedback and preparing to share the first pieces of our city story. This city identity work comes first, but the same data will also be used in the new year to create Destination Management Plans for Greater Christchurch (including Selwyn and Waimakariri and parts of mid-Canterbury) and Banks Peninsula. The creation of destination management plans and city stories sits alongside and contributes to the region’s economic development strategy that aims to drive sustainable economic growth for the whole community.
