A Long ‘Wine & Dine’ Weekend
Since it’s regeneration, Ōtautahi Christchurch has leant into nature and balance. When downtown was being planned and its modern precincts defined, the city was turned toward nature, embracing the rivers, parks and wildlife that define our place.
Soak By The Sea
Let’s get the juices flowing with a relaxing soak and invigorating spa at He Puna Taimoana, the New Brighton hot pools. The only one of its kind, this facility was a cornerstone project in the seaside suburb’s revitalisation and offers a unique experience looking out over the Pacific Ocean. On clear days you’ll get sweeping views from Banks Peninsula all the way to Kaikoura. During the cooler months, book a Sunrise Soak. With later starts in the depth of winter, let the brisk ocean air and naturally heated waters from deep within the earth enliven your senses. Also onsite, Saturdays Café offers a nourishing breakfast to start your day the right way.
Room With A View
After your grounding experience at sea level, let’s get high with lunch at Tussock Hill. The organic vineyard and cellar door bistro is located 15 minutes south of the city. The perfect posy to park up and spend lunch, boasting views of the snowcapped Southern Alps and the city, be astounded by the quality of sustainably sourced kai matched with an exceptional wine offering. Produced both on the central city vineyard and Waipara lots, Tussock Hill’s range is spectacular and their seasonal tipples like Petillant Naturel are a must.
Unleash The Artist
Te Matatiki Toi Ora – the Arts Centre is a treasure trove of culture with CoCA, the Te Puna Waiwhetu - Christchurch Art Gallery and Ravenscar Museum all within a block of the heritage site. Sample the afternoon away with wines at the gallery’s Thirsty Peacock OR if you’re in the spirit of flexing your creative muscle, book yourself a Paint n Sip class. Situated in the southwest quadrant above Cellar Door, the team will open your eyes AND your taste buds in this playfully fun experience mixing paints AND wine varietals from across the region.
A Destination Unto Itself
No trip to Ōtautahi is complete without an excursion to Akaroa. Attractions like Stargazing, Penguin and Dolphin Watching Tours, French Bay Winery, Barry’s Bay Cheese, Akaroa Gin, Shamarra Alpacas, the list is extensive! Get up close and personal with the locals on a dolphin or penguin tour and spend a night or two to soak up the tranquility of this peaceful paradise.
