Dirt Bandits, Mid Canterbury
These guys are New Zealand’s leading UTV (Utility Task Vehicle) experience, just an hour from central Christchurch. This one’s not for the faint-hearted. Reach 100km/hr on Dirt Bandits’ purpose-built farm track on the banks of the Rakaia River just outside Methven. They’re set up for kids 7+ too so bring the whole family.
Underworld Rafting, West Coast
This epic outing includes a rainforest train ride and walk, a thrilling float down a river within a cave, and a snazzy adventure outfit. Underworld Adventures has their own train to the cave entrance, and the expertise needed to safely navigate Te Ananui Cave. You’ll find them in the Paparoa National Park.
Meet An Albatross, Kaikōura
Get up close and personal with an albatross, a seabird with the largest wingspan of any bird – sometimes up to 12 feet (that’s more than 3.5 metres!). Kaikōura’s Albatross Encounter will take you on a sea cruise, offering the best chance to see birds. Couple the wildlife experience with the epic coastal views you’ll get from the water, and this is a must-do Central South Island activity.

Llama Trekking, Kaikoura
Kaikōura was named by Forbes Magazine as one of the best places in the world to see llama…and the list included Peru, birthplace of the llama! Kaikōura Llama Trekking gives you the chance to combine epic views with your own personal llama to carry your gear. They’ve got half day and teasers options, along either the beach or a river. Get ready for some impressive holiday snaps.
NEWZENGLAND Clay Shooting and Archery, Selwyn
Gather the family and friends for an ultra-competitive day out at NEWZENGLAND, located at the Terrace Downs Resort outside of Windwhistle. They’ve got clay bird shooting, archery, air rifle target shooting and knife throwing. They’ve even got a mini-Olympics to really test your competitive side.
Velocity Karts
Harness a windy day at Velocity Karts. Their blokarts are little yachts on land – like nature-powered go-karting but more fun. They can suit any skill level so don’t be intimidated. They’ve also got electric drift karts – one of only two places in the world you can hire them!
