This tour explores 4 of North Canterbury’s boutique vineyards. From Christchurch we drive 45 minutes north through the New Zealand countryside to the Waipara Valley, well known for its warm, dry climate and rich alluvial soils, ideal for superior wine production. Over 40 vineyards and wineries pepper the landscape of the valley, with pinot noir, riesling, chardonnay and sauvignon blanc dominating local plantings. We will stop for tastings at Pegasus Bay, Waipara Springs, Torlesse Winery and Waipara Hills. (Should any of the above named wineries be unavailable on the day, an alternative winery in the Waipara area will be included).

Pick up from your accommodation. Drive to the farm near Springfield (80 kms, 1 hour). Enjoy the changing view as we drive towards the foothills of the Southern Alps. See a sheep dog demonstration and try your hand at shedding sheep. Afterwards take a photo with the sheepdog. Meet the gardeners who create these gardens and be guided by myself who has a keen interest in organic vegetable gardening. You will see why they call Christchurch "The Garden City". Enjoy 3.5 hours walking on a Kaikoura Bay Coastal Llama Trek, with spectacular mountain backdrop throughout. You walk with your own Llama, who will have saddlebags to carry your stuff. A Tour Guide will accompany your Trek, providing Llama help and information, as well as Kaikoura earthquake and historical stories and information. Your Trek will include stretches of beach, boardwalk, quiet lanes, roadside stretches, and a visit to the Peninsular Seal Colony.
