Half Day Christchurch Itinerary

Half Day In Christchurch

Business in the morning and nothing planned for the afternoon? An event in the evening but free all morning? Here are some of our favourite ways to make the most of half a day in Ōtautahi.

Christchurch The Welder

Delicious Dining

You can count on Christchurch to always have something delicious around the corner, whatever time of day you need.

A short 10-minute walk from the central city is The Welder – an urban oasis home to a selection of amazing foodie spots. Grizzly Baked Goods is a favourite local bakery, serving up the most delicious pastries, sandwiches and bagels, as well as top notch coffee. There is also Barefoot Eatery for tasty food with an organic focus, as well as a number of restaurants for a sit-down meal.

Another winning location is Christchurch’s modern twist on a traditional food court, Little High Eatery. Offering a little bit of everything, from burgers to woodfire pizza, dumplings and sushi to nachos and burritos, there’s an incredible selection to choose from. It’s the perfect spot for groups where everyone fancies something different!

Christchurch Architecture Art Gallery

Get Lost In The Art

A meander around Christchurch’s art galleries is a great way to get immersed in some of Christchurch’s history, as well as its rich creativity. First is a visit to the Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetu, where you will discover the impressive building and displays. The gallery is home to ever changing exhibitions so there is always something new to experience.

Once you are finished at the gallery, head across the road to the The Arts Centre Te Matatiki Toi Ora. The beautiful centre has a rich history and is now a hub for the arts in Ōtautahi. There are a few galleries and museums in the centre you can check out, including The Central Art Gallery, Rutherford's Den and The Teece Museum of Classical Antiquities. These spaces each have their own opening hours, so be sure to check first. The centre is also home to a few unique shops, boutique retailers and artisan eateries.
