Short commitments and lasting influence

Flexible options for inspiring the future

Time doesn’t have to be a barrier to giving the next generation some career inspo, check out the options below based on your capacity.

A half day or less per quarter

No worries! The majority of volunteers commit a half a day or less per quarter, or per six months. Here’s some of the ways you can get involved.

Short interview to provide content

Many providers need case studies for websites, podcasts or promotional material.

Time commitment: 2hrs or so: spend an hour or so preparing what you want to say, and max an hour chatting to someone so they can share your story.

Participating in activities

many providers host workshops which you can help out at and share your skills, it could be teaching them tech skills or doing hands on activities.

Time commitment: 2hrs or so – events can vary in time but you should set aside a few hours to take part and complete any prep.

Speaking to a group

It could be a small group, a workshop, a class or an assembly there are plenty of speaking opportunities where you can chat about what you do and your journey to your current role.

Time commitment: Half day or so: spend an hour preparing what you want to say, travel and the visit itself totals approximately a half day.

A day per quarter

Hosting student visits

Here's nothing like seeing something in action, many providers are looking to show students actual workplaces so they can see what you or your organisation does.

Time commitment: A few hours preparing a programme for an on-site experience plus hosting the students for an hour or up to a half day.

A few days per quarter or per 6mths

Host students at your workplace for a few days

Ideally provide the students with a small project and mentor them through it.

Time commitment: A half day preparing for the students and organising a project plus availability during the placement.

I don’t have any time but still want to get involved

Time isn’t the only way you can support, consider some of the following:

Donating materials

Tech equipment, activity resources or specific kit for aerospace or tech workshops.

Sponsoring both one-off events or workshops and ongoing activity

This enables providers to deliver programmes to the community.

Sharing opportunities and encouraging others in your workplace to get involved

You may not have time to commit but others in your workplace may have capacity, so share this info with them!
