About The Project
A city story, or identity, offers a direction and way of talking about a place. It is not simply a logo, colour or tagline, but an evidence-based description used to promote and paint a picture of the city.
On the back of work from Greater Christchurch 2050 and Destination Management Planning work that was happening across the country, ChristchurchNZ engaged both local and global experts to help shape the Ōtautahi Christchurch story. They led an extensive public, visitor and stakeholder engagement campaign to hear what people had to say about the city. They used this to create a story that reflects where we are today.
A clear city identity is a recognised driver of economic development, making it easier to explain why Ōtautahi Christchurch is a great place to live, to work, to visit, to study, to invest and to play. When residents buy into a city identity, it helps foster social cohesion, community pride and a sense of belonging.
As the city’s sustainable economic development agency, ChristchurchNZ has led the work to create our city’s story – the next step is all about how our people use it. For our story to stick, we need everyone to get behind it and that takes a community – and time.
Ōtautahi Christchurch’s story includes the creation of a complementary creative platform (logo, patterns, colours etc) and promotional campaigns that will introduce and develop this new city story.
We encourage everyone to use the story and toolkit when they talk about Ōtautahi Christchurch.
